Dr. Fauci Tells Elizabeth Warren the US Is “Going in the Wrong Direction” and New COVID-19 Cases Could Rise to 100,000 a Day [VIDEO]

Bottom line: this nightmarish presidential administration has condemned hundreds of thousands of Americans to die of a preventable illness. And it may end up being millions.

Jun.30 — Dr. Anthony Fauci, White House coronavirus task force member and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, tells Senator Elizabeth Warren during a Senate panel testimony that he’s concerned the U.S. is “going in the wrong direction” when it comes to containing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Correlation is not causation. Let’s wait to see how many who attended the event came down with coronavirus. It would not be surprising if the participants came from communities that supported Trump and therefore ignore safe practices and consequently would be showing a rise in cases regardless of attendance at the rally.

Fair enough, and correlation isn’t causation. I would be interested to see what percentage of the rally attendees come down with COVID-19….and more importantly, what percentage of that can be traced back to the Tulsa rally.

Any nonessential travel creates additional opportunities for the virus to spread, and political rallies are pretty close to the bottom of the essential list.

Well, I’m sure that if the Tulsa rally organizers (WH people?) have any say in the matter, that latter percentage is likely to be ZERO - since contact tracing doesn’t seem to be much more of a priority for this Admin than testing. And anyway, official policy still seems to be “no tracing = no testing = no cases = no pandemic”, or whatever….

Some 95 people who visited Harper’s Restaurant & Brewpub in East Lansing June 12-20 have now tested positive for COVID-19, Ingham County Health Department announced Monday.

A further 12 people “who were in contact with a primary case but did not go to Harper’s themselves” have also been infected with the virus, per a statement released by the department

White Couple Holds Black Female at Gun Point - White Man Says He Can Shoot Her Because is a Democrat

forget the ‘democrat’ part - that’s bogus

The white man has a gun in his right hand while he apparently prevents the woman from closing her car door. His female companion, has gun in both her hands, pointing directly at the Black woman. There is no evidence the Black woman stole their shoes or that she stole shoes at all. Further, there is no evidence that the store or the mall gave these random white people the authority to traumatize an unarmed person and basically hold her hostage

they have not yet been arrested

I think he really is trying to spread Covid19 on purpose, kill millions, and collapse the country completely. Putin may believe he can finish us off without re-electing Cheeto, and would have given the appropriate orders together with ironclad guarantees of safety and asylum. I think Trump and his inner circle will fight a rear guard action to try to invalidate the election and spread more chaos. He will then abscond just before Biden takes office and pulls his gang’s security clearances. (The security clearances are necessary to keep the USSS and FBI from blocking an escape.)

2 things that seem to explain Trump’s ignorance about Russia’s bounties on U.S. troops, by Aaron Blake, WaPo

The White House appears to be homing in on a defense of last resort for President Trump when it comes to the Russia bounties controversy: He doesn’t read.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Monday claimed Trump hadn’t been briefed on the intelligence that Russia placed bounties on U.S. troops in Afghanistan. But when pressed on whether the intel appeared in Trump’s written President’s Daily Brief, or PDB, she declined to directly respond.
There appears to be a reason for that. The Washington Post and others have confirmed that the information has indeed appeared in the PDB. The Post reports that two sources say “the intelligence was considered significant and credible enough that it was included in the President’s Daily Brief.” The New York Times is also reporting that information appeared in the PDB in late February. The Associated Press reported that it appeared in the PDB as far back as early 2019. And GOP lawmakers who were briefed Monday at the White House also appeared to grant that the info was probably in the PDB. “I believe it may have been,” Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Tex.) told NBC News.

BREAKING: Masks and social distancing will not be required at Trump’s July 4th event at Mt Rushmore. Thousands of people from across the country are expected to attend. It’s clear Trump is actually TRYING to spread coronavirus. This event is an abomination. It must be canceled.

They may die by fire when the rockets set off a brush fire with only two routes away from the ‘festivities’. Fireworks have been banned from Mt. Rushmore for ages.

We had a friend who had an abusive, wife-beating father whom he shot defending his mother when he was a teenager. He spent some time in a juvenile home over it but was not charged as he was a minor and the circumstances were clearly extenuating.

But one of our party gags was for us to go up to someone and say; “Between the two of us, Artie and I have violated all ten commandments!”

FFVCS has now hit -16 percentage points on the 538 aggregate Approval/Disapproval. It is at 56.4 percent disapprove and 40.4 percent approve. The disapproval has not been this high since Jan 2018, while its approval has not been this low since Feb 2019.

Here is how recent presidents were in terms of Net Approval on this date.

Obama +1.1
GWB -3.6
Clinton +14.4
GHWB -19.6 (Yikes!)
Reagan +18.6
Carter -26.1 (Double Yikes!)
Nixon +25.9
Eisenhower +54.8

fwiw, from RCP, because they lean slightly right:
his worst, according to them was 12/14/17
57.9 disapprove
37.3 approve
net disapproval 20.6

we can do it!!!

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) warned Democrats not to mess with the filibuster rule if they win control of the chamber in November, The Hill reports.

Said McConnell: “The important thing for our Democratic friends to remember is that you may not be in total control in the future, and anytime you start fiddling around with the rules of the Senate, I think you always need to put yourself in the other fellow’s shoes and just imagine what might happen when the wind shifts.”

What I’d really like is someone who has different experience than the current members of the court. Maybe someone with more recent experience as a trial judge (since he’s probably not picking someone from private practice). Someone who has worked on criminal defense matters would be especially nice (there’s very strong bias for prosecutors generally on the bench but especially on the Supreme Court).

Random question, since I just went down a mini-rabbit hole on the Senate leadership… why isn’t the President Pro Tem of the Senate treated like the Speaker of the House? As in, why isn’t the leader of the majority party the PPT instead of the longest tenured member of the majority? Especially since the PPT is third in line of succession for the presidency?

Pretty hard to pay that out of pocket if you’re working 20 hours a week at $15/hour and to be able to afford the other essentials of life.

I wholeheartedly agree. Given that so much of what the Supreme Court does is ultimately about the rules of civil or criminal procedure, I’d love to see someone who has been in trial court rooms in the last decade. The U of MN cost $325 for a full load credit per semester in 1973. I was paying for it myself with a part time job. My parents let me live at home as long as I was attending the U of M.

Living at home wound up being a mistake because my dad didn’t really give a shit that I was attending the U. It was more important to him that I was working. I wound up not giving a shit about the U either, and I floundered and dropped out in my second year.

When I finally moved out of the house it was to be a full time musician, which my dad REALLY hated. He stopped talking to me once I’d made that decision. He couldn’t believe that I never had to move back home again due to poverty.

James Blish wrote a book called Black Easter, with one minor character (one scene) who’s a demon — specifically, a succubus. The first time I saw Kayleigh, I was brought back to that book, which I haven’t looked at for at least 10 years (although now that I’m reminded…).

Not that she’s like the character exactly. More like she aspires to be her, and can’t quite pull it off. Whatever else you say about demons, they’re pretty pure of will.

China has nothing to do with why we’re in this situation, you literal piece of orange garbage. The virus would have come here eventually, and your cockups would still have ensured that we are properly fucked right now.

Trump is desperately trying to find a Boogeyman for him to rally folks against, nobody is in the mood for that right now.

I don’t hear that crap around here, of course, but I have imagined this “conversation.”

“Covid came from China!”

“No, bats.”

Not much else I can think of to say, really.

nah…

Back then, a “gentleman” had to dress well, speak in full sentences (with no profanity) and be chivalrous to white women. Trump can’t and/or won’t do any of those.

Naaah, Back in the Civil War days, Trump would have probably been one of those “political generals”, buying his way into rank by raising (I.e. paying for) a regiment in NY, and getting a fancy uniform to ride around in - and then blow it by getting his unit shot to shit at Antietam or wherever, and spend the rest of the war “commanding” a coal depot in Vermont. But still calling himself “General” for the rest of his life….

No way Trump fronts the cash to raise a regiment. More likely, he swindles a bunch of other people for the cash, pockets most of it and tricks a bunch of recent immigrants into enlisting by pretending the roster is for cheap housing.

re: #346 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

Positive news: Mrs. Fish and I went out today, together, for a proper date at a sit-down restaurant. About 50% of the patrons walked in with a mask (not wearing them while eating, obviously). Similarly with the grocery store we stopped at afterward, though the liquor store was a bit less. A little hope in the wild north country has been restored.

Sit-down but outdoors, right? Because indoor dining is in no way safe:

I am actually 100% OK with a Club Fed type facility - as long as he cannot leave. I kind of want him to be able to watch TV a lot - so he can see himself being reviled, disavowed, insulted, as well as seeing more and more of his misdeeds being revealed. I think that would hurt him more than would the harsher conditions at higher security level prisons. I also want him in a place where his life will be as safe as possible - I don’t want him to miss it when people COMPLETELY STOP TALKING ABOUT HIM

even let him play golf but he has to walk. Oh, the humanity!
